How to Open a Combination Lock without the Code

So far, many people still use roller combination locks on cabinets, boxes and safes at home to ensure the safety of some valuable items. But if you don't open your combination lock for a long time, you may forget what the combination is. Most manual combination locks can be cracked using physical force, but this takes a lot of time and effort. Fortunately, there are several other ways to help you open your combination lock.

Cracking the Code
The first step is to familiarize yourself with the structure of the lock. A lock consists of three basic components. The shackle is a U-shaped component that connects it to an object. The dial is the section with numbers that rotates. The body comprises the remainder of the lock.

The most important step is to practice pressure. To find the lock combination, carefully pull up on the shackle. Excessive pressure will make it hard to turn the dial. Too little, and the dial will spin freely. You should use mild pressure which may require some practice.

Then hold the shackle in place by slowly pulling it up. Turn the dial clockwise and listen intently until the lock clicks. You should write that number down after you've added five. So that you get the first number of the combination. Try using the first number as a starting point and slowly rotate the dial a few times. When you feel that the lock has reached a point where it is difficult to turn, you have found the second number. If you don't want to find the third number anymore, you can simply test every possible combination. At this point, you should only have 40 possibilities left, and one of them will definitely open your lock.

Creating a Shim
The producers of recent locks designed them to be shim-proof, although they can still be picked in some circumstances. This strategy will work better with older locks. To successfully utilize a shim, you must work at the point where the shackle locks, as working on the hinge will yield no results. The locking mechanism is usually found on the left side of the lock, with the shackle on top and the dial facing you.

You may make a shim for yourself by chopping up a Coke can. You need to cut a strip a little more than an inch wide as the material to make a shim. Create two curving and two diagonal incisions and then fold the sides into a handle. After doing that, you have a shim. Next, you just need to put the shim around the shackle of the lock and lift the shackle to its maximum height.

Lock Reset
Some locks have serial numbers engraved on them, you can write them down and then find the lock supplier to verify your ownership of the lock and provide you with a combination. You can also send a missing combination form straight to the manufacturer. Check the manufacturer's website to see if they provide this service. If it is a school’s or business’s lock, the administration may have a list of combinations based on serial numbers. So you would better write down the serial number of your combination lock and bring it to the main office.

The above are several ways to open combination locks. Of course, you can also purchase professional lock pick sets to solve the lock-picking problem.
